Librarians on User Participation in Five European Countries / Perspectives de bibliothécaires sur la participation des utilisateurs dans cinq pays européens
Abstract |
This study reports the results from an international survey of library professionals and investigates cross-national variation of their attitudes towards user participation and its role in public libraries by comparing differences between librarians in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, and Germany. The results show how conceptualizing attitudinal patterns as discursive interpretative repertoires and mapping them to activity systems is helpful in explicating different constituents and takes on user participation and its consequences in libraries and library work.
